Born in Zürich into a family from Geneva. Classical matriculation. Musical studies at the Zürich Conservatory (V.Andreae, E.Frey. E. Isler, P.Müller). Went to Paris in 1931, where he studied with J.Bonnet (organ), A.Cortot (piano), N.Boulanger and P. Dukas (composition). His nomination in 1935 to the post of organist and choirmaster at the British Embassy Church enabled him to remain in Paris, where ha also taught music and, from 1938 to 1945, was the incumbent at the Basilique Sainte-Clotilde. He gave up his Parisian activities in 1960 in order to devote himself entirely to composing and has lived in Geneva since 1961. In 1983 he decided to hand over his entire output to the Lausanne cantonal and university library, who in 1986 published a catalogue of his works.
