  (1898 - 1988)

Born in Geneva. Matriculation at the Collège Calvin. Musical studies at the Academy and at the Conservatorie de Genève (prof. G.Delaye, A.Mottu, O.Barblan). 1917-1978: organist of the national reformed church. 1920-1942: choirmaster (Yverdon and Nyon). 1940-1960: founder and director of the Cathedral choir. 1929-1935: music critic at the “Journal de Genève”. 1927-1936: musical introduction courses at the radio, and first live performances of organ recitals (Temple de Carouge). 1937-1943: sound engineer for the broadcast of concerts by the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande and performances at the opera. 1931: in Paris, received a diploma for Ondes Martenot (first player in Switzerland). 1936: rhythm diploma of the Institut Jacques-Dalcroze. From 1944 to 1964: head of the musical department of Radio Genève. During these 20 years he played a crucial role in the musical life of French Switzerland. 1961-1971: teacher at the Conservatoire: courses in “Form and Style” (committee member). 1962 – 1969: president of the International Music Competition. At the radio: renewed masterclasses (61-71). On the committee of the Swiss Musicians’ Association from 1963 to 1975, he was awarded their composer’s prize in 1975. In 1967 he received the Music Prize of the City of Geneva “both for his abundant musical output and his rich career as an authentic musician”. Prize of the B.A.T. Foundation in 1972. President of the F. Viñas singing competition in Barcelona from 1963 to 1978. Appointed as music expert to the European Council in Strasburg from 1965 to 1969.
