Giangaspero Sergio
Born in 1965, Sergio Giangaspero grew up in Monfalcone, where he dedicated himself to the study of the piano as a child before transitioning to classical guitar. Alongside his classical repertoire, he immediately began studying various genres, from rock to pop, showcasing a keen interest in Brazilian popular music. Later, under the guidance of Maestro Fabio Cascioli, he acquired aesthetic sensibilities that he developed with a refined, eclectic, and transversal taste, which became characteristic of his style. He delved into literature and musical traditions from different countries while also composing original pieces for classical guitar from the age of nineteen.
In 1997, he participated in an annual music production course promoted by ENAIP and taught by Andrea Centazzo.
In the first three decades of his career, he focused on live performances and took part in radio and television programs.
He performed with various groups at numerous festivals such as Trieste Loves Jazz, Triestestate, Musica in Rocca (Monfalcone), Strofe Dipinte di Jazz (Romans), Tavagnacco Jazz, Madame Guitar (Udine), BlueNote (Gorizia – Nova Gorica), Harmonikada (Nova Gorizca), Festival Jeff (Koper), and Jazz Cerkno. He was invited to play in jazz clubs and cultural centers in Ljubljana, Maribor, Radovlica, Celje, Volkemark, Graz, Loeben, and Vienna. Additionally, he performed with different ensembles at the Municipal Theater of Monfalcone, Pasolini in Cervignano, San Giorgio in Udine, Hangar in Trieste, and Kulturni dom in Gorizia.
He appeared multiple times on radio and television programs, including Jazz e dintorni, Riverberi, and Buongiorno Regione with R.A.I., Musicando with Tele4, Izštekani with Radio Televizija Slovenija, and Radio Koper.
In recent years, he decided to focus more on his original compositions. In 2020, he released the album "Maelstrom," which he produced and wrote for guitar, acoustic bass, and flute. It was published in 2022 by Anelli Records.
In 2021, his self-produced album "LiquidGuitar" was released, featuring 11 Preludes for guitar written over three decades and illustrated by Francesca Danese in the context of the homonymous project. It also served as inspiration for a music and painting workshop for children at the Scuola di Musica 55 in Trieste. The 11 Preludes were subsequently published as a sheet music book by Pizzicato Verlag Helvetia in the same year.
In 2022, the sheet music for "Mulkus - Suite a colori," a continuation of the LiquidGuitar project, was published by the same publisher.
Sergio Giangaspero has also produced albums such as "Imagens Quartet plays Celso Machado" (2010) and "Choro pra mim" (2013), both performed with the Imagens Quartet and released by Anelli Records, as well as the album "Solos and Duets" (2021), featuring pieces by Brazilian composers and some original compositions.
He has participated in numerous recording projects: Maledetta la guerra, with Ornella Serafini, from the Ryunyo project produced by the province of Trieste, Funk me to the moon by Al Castellana, (Soulville), La musica dello gnomo mirtillo (book with CD by Vincenzo Stera) for Feltrinelli, Facile, album finalist for the Tenco Prize as a debut work by Paola Rossato, Slow Metabolism and Simpatico mi by Fulvio Bozzetta (Lademoto Records), Samson by Chiara Boldreghini (Jezzy Records), The peacocks by Loretta Cimenti, Ponteio with the group of the same name, Travelling show and Nadzanav with the group Drom Pale Luma.
After teaching in various music schools in Friuli Venezia Giulia, he became a member of the Music School 55 in Trieste where he has been teaching guitar since 2002 and has also taught solfege and music theory courses since 2006.
