Antonio Savasta (Catania 1873 – Naples 1959) studied at the Conservatory of Naples where he was pupil of Camillo De Nardis for Harmony and Nicola D’Arienzo for Counterpoint. After graduating in Composition on 10 July 1897, Savasta began he career as a music teacher and composer of chamber, symphonic and opera music. He had been deputy Director of the Conservatory of Naples (Director Francesco Cilea) and Director of the Conservatory of Palermo. His Quintet in Bb major, composed in 1899, was first performed on 2nd March 1903 with Giovanni Sgambati at the piano.
